Government grants are a great way to help pay for college, if you need it. There are a few grant that students can apply for like Pell grants, SMART grant, TEACH grants and the academic competitiveness grant. Pell grants are a maximum of $5,000 given to a student that is looking to go to undergraduates’ school; Obama’s government just invested $ 40 million in the federal Pell grant to help students, especially women to go to school. The national science and mathematics access to retain talent grant (SMART) is available to students in their third of fourth year in undergraduate studies, to be eligible for this grant you must be enrolled half time for educational courses. You cannot use this grant in distance learning or online courses. This grant provided $4,000 to eligible students and requires that student to maintain a 3.0 grade point average. TEACH grant are government grant for teachers, which give $4,000 per year to student who intend to teach in schools, serving students that are of low income families. After receiving this grant you must teach for 4 years over a period of 8 years, to students of low income households. If you fail these requirements, this grant will become a loan that you will have to pay back. The academic competitiveness grant goes to the recipient of the Pell grant but only if the combination of both does not exceed the course fee. This grant is only for $750 for the first year, $1,300 for the second year.
