The Obama Administration is supporting higher education and has created opportunity for many to go back to school during this economic crisis through the use of grants. Unlike a loan a grant does not have to be repaid and allows students a break from the high cost of education.

Most of these grants are for students who meet certain educational criteria and who are from low income families. More grants are available for some sectors of education such as technology and science as the government is trying to encourage the development of these areas for the good of the country’s future. These grants are generally funded by corporate and political organizations and while anyone who meets the criteria is eligible, there are grants geared toward the educational development of women from low income areas.

A stronger workforce ensures our country’s strength and for this reason grants are geared to assist those who want to advance their careers and their lifestyles. In situations where a student is forced to quit school to take care of family obligations, a grant can be the vehicle to helping them finish and succeed.

Currently in the United State there are over 10 million single mothers struggling to meet the financial needs and support of their growing families. Studies have shown across the world that women are more responsible with education and money and are better equipped emotionally to handle the stress of raising a family and continuing their education. For this reason, grants are made available for them as the organizations that support these grants know that the money will go a long way to helping them become independent, responsible adults.

Single dads are not left out either. The Obama administration has made grants available for single dads who also meet similar criteria as single moms, of low income and educational standards.
