College students should keep track of their personal finances because it probably in their best interest to keep it to a minimum of how much money you spend. Here are some basics what to become responsible with your money. Cutting back on thing you don’t need is a good way to start, buying a Nintendo wii is probably not a good idea to buy when you are still paying for college, maybe find a friend that has one and play theirs if they don’t mind. Video games are a good place to cut back on, but there’s also cable television, eating out and buying soda, if you don’t need it don’t buy it. Budgeting you money is a good idea, if you have a part time job and you make about $400 per month as a student, you would divide that into fourths which means you have $100 for food, $100 for entertainment, $100 for additional expenses and $100 for savings. Work-study doesn’t matter what school you go to you can always find a campus job, some schools even require that you have a work-study fund. If you get a job on campus that mean that you can study while you work, schools usually give these jobs to students so that they can make money and still study too. Bargain shopping will also help you save money too, if you shop at your local thrift store then you will save yourself some money, but if that’s not your thing stick to stores like tj maxx and kohl for their inexpensive deals, clearance racks can be your best friends when in need of clothes but are trying to save money. Also if you were to choose loans more carefully, one must read the fine print, if you don’t read it you may have some trouble on your hands, if you are unsure about anything maybe have your advisor at school take a look or even go to your school’s financial aid office for more information.
